Back in seventh grade, before I had even thought about my career, I spent my nights on the computer, teaching myself basic HTML design and learning about frames and tables with FrontPage. I had Tripod pages with my fiction writing posted for my own entertainment. Even then, I dabbled in JavaScript, using OnMouseOver to create hover effects that are now so easily done with CSS.
In high school, a teacher cajoled me to join the newspaper staff, and my senior year I became editor-in-chief. By this time, journalism had already won me over. I attempted to create an online version of the school paper, but it never became fully functional like I had desired.
Oddly enough I never conceived of the online media field -- until I stumbled upon a few online and multimedia classes in the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications.
And so online media and multimedia journalism has become my concentration, my hobby, my passion and my career. I have professional experience with HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Flash, and have tinkered with PHP and MySQL. Learning how to code the latter two languages, along with furthering my experience in online media, is my current goal.
During my studies at UF, I have also been a stringer for the Florida Independent Alligator, as well as a copy editor and a copy desk chief for the Sports section. Aside from separate commissions, I am currently working on the multimedia desk of the Miami Herald through August 2006.
